We had originally planned to drive to Portmagee on the morning of our trip to Skellig Michael, but decided instead to stay at The Moorings the night before. It proved to be an excellent decision and made the whole experience far more relaxed and stress-free.

The location could not be more convenient, with the hotel directly opposite the pier where the Skellig boats depart. It is genuinely about a 20-second walk.

The adjoining bar and restaurant were excellent. I had the scallops, which were on the pricey side but very tasty, while my wife had the roast chicken and bacon and was seriously impressed with it.

The breakfast buffet was understandably fairly limited given the size of the hotel, but the cooked breakfast was excellent. We were not sure whether we would have time for it before our early boat departure (8am), but the staff in the restaurant went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after. Their service and attitude were superb.

Our room was bigger than expected and very spacious. The carpet was slightly dated, but overall the room was clean, comfortable and modern.

An excellent place to stay, especially if you are heading out to the Skelligs.

We got a last minute table for 6pm and had a lovely meal. They have a wide range of dishes on the menu, portion sizes are big and fresh. All staff were lovely and friendly and food was delivered to the tables quickly. Lots of diners eating in the restaurant and bar, so that speaks volumes for a great restaurant in the area.

Beautiful location. Great food. Service was good ay restaurant. The hotel rooms were okay. Our toilet wouldn't flush and front desk didn't seem to care. Since we have several people with us we asked around. Ours was not a unique experience. I will give it a 4 start because the food was great.
